Puppies For Sale - Part Four

“Alright, now that the groups are assembled, we're giving you five hours to get acquainted and figure out an act for tonight's audition. Good Luck!” The fat old woman who pinned up the lists the previous day explained, late in the morning as the kids gathered around her. “Ooh, this is going to be so much fun!” Enrique squealed, hugging Xavier, Chester and Greg. “Yeh, I s'pose it could be fun...” Xavier squeaked. “...I'm starvin'. The rest of you up for somethin' to eat? I'm drivin'.” Chester said, getting out of Enrique's grip. “That sounds good! I forgot to eat this morning and I think I just might faint soon.” Enrique said. “It's only 10, though...” Xavier pointed out. “It's not like it's been 5 or so.” He said. “Oh, it has though. I woke up around 5 or 6 this morning.” Enrique said. “I didn't even sleep.” Greg said. “Too excited?” Xavier asked. “No, insomnia.” Greg replied. “...Oh.” Xavier said. “Guys, you comin' or what?” Chester shouted back to them, nearing an exit. The boys ran after him.

“Alright, we'll uh... take a Hamburger, extra pickles, no onions, tomatoes...” Chester said. “I'll take the Chicken salad.” Enrique added. “Chicken sandwich.” Greg added. “And an Adventure meal for the kid.” Chester said, ruffling Xavier's hair. “I'm not a kid, I'm fourteen!” Xavier shouted, fixing his hair. The boys all looked at him weirdly. “Are you serious?” Greg asked. “Yes.” Xavier replied. Greg laughed. “What, are yer parents wee leprechauns, laddy?” He asked, mocking Xavier and his accent. “Okay! That's going a little overboard, you're paying for yourself.” Chester said. “What?” Greg asked. “What? Yes.” Chester replied. “That's the way it's gonna be if we're gonna be a band. If you another, going too far, you pay for your own meal or we 'shun' you for the day.” He explained. “Okay...” Xavier and Enrique affirmed, Xavier while biting on his nail. “Fine...” Greg grumbled. “I'm glad we have an understanding. Xavier?” Chester asked. “I want a burger, please.” Xavier said, still biting his nail. “...Quit biting your nails.” Chester said. “Anyway. Two burgers, a chicken salad and a chicken sandwich. Our friend will be paying for his sandwich by himself.” Chester said, putting his money on the counter. Greg put his money on the counter. The lady nodded and gave them their food.

“I think we should play a game to get to know each other better.” Enrique said, when the boys all gathered in Xavier's room. “We can play Truth or Dare.” Greg said. “Whatever. Nothing obscene.” Chester said. “Alright, mom.” Greg grumbled. “Antonio, truth or dare?” He asked. “It's Enrique, and Truth.” He said. “Have you ever kissed a girl?” Greg asked. “...no, I haven't.” Enrique replied. “Interesting.” Greg said. Enrique blushed. “Uhm... Xavier, truth or dare?” He asked. “Dare.” Xavier said, then had a look on his face that said he regretted it. “Okay, uhm... I dare you to prank call the front desk.” Enrique said. Xavier sighed and dialed the number for the front desk. A man with a Russian accent picked up. “Yes, hello?” He asked. “Yes, hello?” Xavier mimicked. “How may I be of service?” The man asked. “How can you be of service?” Xavier asked. “Xavier, hang up the phone, you aren't playing that.” Mrs. O'Toole said stenrly from the other room. “Alright, mum!” Xavier shouted back, hanging up the phone. “Alright, mum.” Greg mocked. Xavier glared at Greg. “Yeh'r lucky yer bigger than me, 'cause if you weren't, I'd kill you.” He growled. “Okay! Let's do what Mrs. O'Toole asked and stop playing the game.” Chester said. “What? Come on, he's just being a baby.” Greg argued. “Well, you're pissing everyone off, so we're not playing.” Chester said. “Ugh, fine.” Greg groaned, throwing himself back down on the couch. Xavier picked his guitar up to play it. “That's a pretty big guitar, is it yours?” Enrique asked. “...Yes. Why?” Xavier asked, starting to play. “Well, don't you think it would be easier to play a guitar that's your size?” Enrique asked. “Me gran bought me this, so I'm playing it.” Xavier mumbled, playing away.

“Did you all have fun this afternoon?” The man asked. The kids murmured in response. “I'm hoping you all are good at improv, because before your groups go on we're switching you up to test you.” The man said. “What?!” Chester shouted. “I'm sorry, but it's what the network wanted!” The man said. The kids were all switched up, two from each group sent to the one beside them. Greg was sent to the group with Chandler, and Xavier was sent to a group where he stuck out more than usual.
